Milo, AI Recruiter
You'll have a conversation with Milo, our AI Recruiter. You will receive instructions and a link from CodeSignal.
Once you begin, Milo will ask questions and follow-ups, much like a human recruiter would. After speaking with Milo, a Coinbase recruiter will review your conversation and decide on next steps.

Audio tips

AI Notetaker
Our AI Notetaker joins all interviews except those with Milo to record audio/video and generate transcriptions and insights so interviewers can stay present with you.
Audio & video tips
The Notetaker records both audio and video. Cameras should generally be turned on unless your recruiter communicates otherwise.
Other AI Notetakers are not permitted
Personal AI notetakers are prohibited for confidentiality and NDA compliance. Only Coinbase's approved Notetaker may join.

Why does Coinbase want AI Fluent candidates?
Coinbase seeks AI-fluent candidates to ensure employees can effectively leverage AI tools to enhance efficiency, innovation, and decision-making, aligning with the company's AI-forward culture and mission to build at the forefront of technology.
Which AI tools, if any, will be used in my interview process?
Your recruiter will let you know what AI tools will be part of your interview process. If you can't find the information or if you have questions, please reach out to your recruiter.
Why is Coinbase using these AI tools?
Coinbase prides itself on being an early adopter of innovative technology, including AI. Using an AI Recruiter expedites the initial screening process and limits human bias in decision-making, while our AI Notetaker saves interviewers' time, so they can focus on meaningfully engaging with you, rather than taking notes.
Will a human review my interview results?
Yes. All interview results will be assessed and reviewed by our hiring team. Coinbase will not use AI to make decisions impacting employment.
Will my interviews be recorded?
Yes, our AI Notetaker will record both audio and video, and it will create a transcript of your conversation, along with notes that include AI insights. When interviewing with our AI Recruiter Milo, audio (not video) will be recorded and a transcript will be generated.
Am I required to have my camera turned on during interviews?
Camera functionality is not enabled during an AI Recruiter Screen with Milo. When meeting with a human recruiter, we encourage you to have your camera on. If your recruiter is OK with audio-only, it will be communicated in advance, or you can reach out to your recruiter for clarification. For all other interviews, cameras should generally remain on.
How long will the recording and transcript be retained? Will my personal information be protected?

How will the AI notes and recordings from my interviews be used?
The notes and recordings from your interviews will be used by our team to review key details of your interviews, ensure a consistent evaluation process, and ultimately help us make the most informed hiring decision.
Can I opt out of using AI?
If the AI Recruiter is part of your interview process, you may opt out by notifying your recruiter as soon as possible. If the AI Notetaker is part of your interview process, you may opt out by completing this opt out form. After opting out, the AI Notetaker will not join any of your future interviews. To request an accommodation, please reach out to accommodations@coinbase.com.
Who can I reach out to if I think I should be reassessed?
Reassessments are not permitted for any part of the interview process. Our team holistically evaluates your candidacy, including results from AI tools. If you have any concerns, please reach out to your recruiter for consideration.

Permissible
Interview Preparation
Candidates may use personal AI tools to:
- Prepare for interviews.
- Research Coinbase and the cryptocurrency industry.
- Refine understanding of Coinbase roles and culture.
Technical Assessments
- Candidates may be expected to use AI-assisted technology during select coding assessments.
- Candidates will be assessed on ability to use standard industry best practices and tooling.
Work Trials
- AI is encouraged for research, innovation, and efficiency.
- Candidates must disclose any AI assistance in creating work.
Prohibited
During Interviews
- Candidates cannot use AI to assist in answering questions during live interviews unless explicitly directed by your recruiter or interviewer.
- Candidates must engage authentically to reflect their capabilities.
Work Trial Submissions from Scratch
We expect you to use AI tools the way you would on the job: to explore ideas, structure your thinking, and polish your communication. At the same time, anything you submit must reflect your own judgment and original thinking, and you should be able to clearly explain and defend your work without AI.
Cognitive/Cultural Assessments
- AI use is prohibited for cognitive and cultural performance assessments unless disclosed under conditions defined by your recruiter.
Personal AI Notetaking Tools
- The use of personal AI notetaking tools (such as Otter.ai, Fireflies, Fathom, etc.) during interviews is strictly prohibited to ensure the confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information.
- This policy aligns with Coinbase's commitment to NDA compliance and prevents data storage or processing on unauthorized systems.
- When disclosed, the Coinbase interview team may use an approved AI Notetaker that adheres to our security, privacy, and data retention policies.
Disclosure & Enforcement
Candidates are required to acknowledge that Coinbase may use AI tools to assist in the application and interview process when applying, and will be provided our Candidate Guidelines on AI before any scheduled interviews take place.
Candidates using AI for permissible purposes (e.g., work trials or coding assessments) must explicitly:
- State the purpose and scope of AI usage.
- Disclose the usage of AI before it is deployed.
- Document and disclose how AI was used on final deliverables.
Candidates that do not adhere to these guidelines may be disqualified from the selection process.
Escalation Process
Concerns about AI misuse during interviews or assessments should be escalated to the Coinbase Talent Team for review.
